Charles E. and Susan T. Harris Professor of Finance and the Laboratory for Financial Engineering Director at the MIT Sloan School of Management

Prof. Lo is most famous for his research on evolutionary investor behavior and quantitative models of financial markets. His recent passion has been in healthcare finance. Recent projects include an evolutionary explanation for bias and discrimination, and how to reduce their effects; a new analytical framework for measuring the impact of impact investing; and new statistical tools for predicting clinical trial outcomes, incorporating patient preferences into the drug approval process, and accelerating biomedical innovation via novel business and financing structures.

Prof. Lo is one of TIME’s 100 most influential people in the world and has published extensively in academic journals and books including his most recent book, Adaptive Markets: Financial Evolution at the Speed of Thought. He founded AlphaSimplex Group in 1999 and served as chairman and chief investment strategist until 2018.

He holds a BA in economics from Yale University and Ph.D. in economics from Harvard University.
